Eraserheads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You read it right, it's UltraElectroMagneticJAM and not UltraElectroMagneticPOP ( this was their first album). I had the chance to hear a glimpse of the songs via Tower Records ( parang Powerbooks na libre basa, dito, libre pakinig). I fell in love ( kanino?)...err..I fell in love with the album. It's the CD I am longing to buy ( I mentioned this in my earlier blogs) but I got it in a shorter route ( naks, parang CISCO ah) Ok..this is un-nationalistic. My sister asked me to buy her a SHAMROCK CD ( pirated mp3s, hehehe). Lo and behold!!!! Ultra's included in the package! If it's already there, will you not grab the chance to play it? You know the answer :) I still plan to buy the orig one once I have extra money ( kelan kaya un? Ah! Sa katapusan...sa katapusan....ng Mundo, hehehe. Just Kidding!) By the way, I accept CDs as birthday gift =)
Konting flashback muna.....
During my highschool/college years, I was a big, avid fan of the E-heads. As in! To the highest level! I had this big crush kay Ely who's really not handsome but I truly admire his musical talent ( songwriting, guitars, etc) but when he got married or got into domestic relationship ba( a.k.a Live-in)? ...Pak! Ayoko na sa kanya! The E-heads was on the brink of disbandment ( is this the term? Sorry, I'm lazy to pick up the dictionary) that time, which was the reason for their non-apperance in TV shows, printed materials, etc.
I would say the degree of fanaticism I had with E-heads was more than what I had with Smokey Mountain ( the first batch) or New Kids on the Block ( uh..oh...that will reveal my age...) I had most if not all of their tapes ( yup, CDs were not a common commodity back then. I believe there's a few tapes I don't have for grave reasons, for sure. I knew their songs by heart ( but as years progressed, I have forgotten some -- that's understandable!). I bought magazines/songhits which featured them ( pati SM and New Kids) but I just selected the really good ones dahil kung ndi, baka naman wala na akong kainin niyan ( payat pa ako that time). I would cut out articles about them. I would track the radio stations' hit list and rejoiced when their songs landed in the Top 10. I would be aware what shows they will be appearing into and patiently wait for their turn. I was a fan of some other bands too but my excessive enthusiasm for the E-heads will be unparalled. I guess my devotion to them is still subliminal compared to others ( ung tipong you are stalking them). I don't know..perhaps, during our youth, we would pass that stage of having intense admiration to some celebrities who do not even know us. I would remember one time when the E-heads had their concert in Pampanga. I braved thru the throngs of people who came into the venue who were mostly guys ( syempre!) and who looked like members of rock bands ( which were my interest talaga before. I dreamt of becoming a drummer). During the concert, bottles of beer were flying. There were even condoms ( grabe, ganito pala sa rock concert!). People were head-banging ( including me, pero moderate lang hehe). I was shouting "Elllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the top of my voice ( pero wala nang I Love you, ndi naman ako ganun, hehehe). Are you shocked? Yes, that's me at that time. I tremendously enjoyed the concert because I saw them. However, I did not like the rock-concert atmosphere na parang nag dru drugs ung mga katabi mo. It was a good thing that I asked my friend to come with me but if she was not available that time, kaya kong mag-isa. Ganyan ko ka love ang E-heads ( when I write this,....I can say..yuckkkkkk!!!). I told my father I will go home early...I went home early morning :) ( Sabi ko sa tatay ko.."De, maaga akong uuwi, promise...Ayun, umuwi ako, umaga na). That was my first time to go home in the wee hours of the morning, considering I was very young then. Now, I realize how my parents worried about me during that time. When I went home that day, they were all in the terrace waiting for me. I received a gamut of sermons, we hardly slept.
The E-heads are gone but the members are still around, belonging to different bands. I don't go gaga over them anymore, not even Ely ( I don't even bother to know what the songs of Pupil are). I have passed that craziness stage but the admiration for this band is still there. In one of my prayer meetings, I even shared about this "kabaliwan" and how it related to my spirituality (that would be another topic).
When I heard the songs in the UltraElectroMagneticJam album, memories of my youth came back ( Wow, it's like admitting you are not young anymore...tsk..tsk..tsk..). I would commend all the new bands for their good renditions of the popular hits of the E-heads ( except for the Super Proxy which is an original collaboration of Francis M and Ely). Galing!
The CD is playing in the background for the 3rd time while I am writing this blog. What an amazing album!
